RESEARCH ASSOCIATE – REAL ESTATE

Third Avenue Management is seeking a Research Associate to join its Real Estate team in the firm’s Austin, TX office.

In this role, the Research Associate would work alongside the Portfolio Managers of the Third Avenue Real Estate Funds and assist the team with (i) conducting industry and sector research, (ii) performing fundamental analysis in monitoring existing investments, and (iii) undertaking deep-dive research in pursuit of identifying undervalued global real estate securities not already held in the Funds.

The findings from this work would be shared with the Real Estate group, as well as the broader Third Avenue investment team, on a regular basis through written reports and investment presentations.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for the position will have:

  • Demonstrated academic success with a bachelor’s degree,
  • 1-4 years of professional experience with analyzing investments in real estate securities or direct real estate,
  • Understanding of financial statements with the intentions of pursuing a CFA ® Charter if not already held,
  • Interest in value investing and/or real estate as illustrated through past work experience and/or education,
  • Willingness to take on occasional travel for property visits and other due diligence efforts which could include international travel, and
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented culture.

EQUITY RESEARCH ANALYST

Third Avenue Management LLC, a New York City-based investment adviser focused on value investing, is seeking an Equity Research Analyst to join its investment team in the New York, NY office. The Third Avenue team adheres to a value-oriented, opportunistic approach to investing in publicly traded securities globally. The team currently manages more than $800 million in global value strategies, including the Third Avenue Value Fund and Third Avenue Small Cap Fund, which have more than 20 year track records.

In this role, the Equity Research Analyst would primarily conduct industry research, perform bottom-up fundamental analysis in monitoring existing positions, and undertake deep-dive research in undervalued global companies for the Third Avenue Funds. The findings from this work would be presented to the global value team, as well as the broader Third Avenue investment team, through both verbal and written communication on a regular basis.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate for the position would have:

  • 3-7 years of professional experience with analyzing and recommending investments in public securities
  • Understanding of financial statements with the intentions of pursuing a CFA charter if not already held,
  • Passion for value investing as illustrated through past work experience and/or education,
  • Demonstrated academic success with a bachelor’s degree
  • Desire to grow professionally by learning from and supporting a highly experienced team
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented culture, and
  • Willingness to take on occasional travel for company visits and other due diligence efforts.
